TWO super-fit motor patrol officers have acquired a new set of wheels to aid them in a strenuous weekend triathlon challenge.
PCs Steve Heiniger and Mick Kipling are tackling the swimming, cycling and running test in the Northumberland countryside tomorrow, to raise money for a children's charity.
They must each swim 400 metres, cycle 17 kilometres, and run seven-kilometres.
PC Heiniger said: "Mick and myself have a combined age of almost 100, but we've both got experience of a triathlon, although it's about 12 or 13 years since I did one."
They have passed their £500 sponsorship target for the event, with the money earmarked for the Sunshine Fund for Children.
Durham motor dealer VW Pulman pledged £300 and aided their preparations by donating a VW Sharan people carrier as a support vehicle, which will be driven by PC Heiniger's wife, Louise.
e two officers were joined by the force's head of traffic, Superintendent Barry Peart, when they collected the keys to the vehicle from VW Pulman marketing manager Lynsey Earnshaw, at the company's Abbey Road premises.
