AN independent public inquiry into plans for a £60m riverside shopping development will resume on Tuesday.
Inspector Tony Bingham adjourned the hearing into the Coppergate II planning application in York in February after four weeks because it ran out of time.
Land Securities is seeking permission for a mixed retail, residential, office and leisure scheme on land which includes the Castle car park and parts of Piccadilly.
The inquiry is also hearing an appeal from the York Tomorrow campaign group, whose application to transform the Castle car park into a public park was turned down in 2000.
Susan Heywood, City of York Council's principal development control officer, said: "I don't think anyone could have anticipated the timetable going beyond four weeks originally, but this is a controversial issue for many and Mr Bingham was understandably keen to ensure that he did things thoroughly and allowed everyone to have their say."
