A COUNCILLOR who has worked for the people of Hambleton for 28 years has taken over as chairman of the local authority.
Percy Featherstone took up the reins at the district council's annual meeting.
Councillor Featherstone, who represents Crayke ward, takes over from John Prest, who has held the position for the past year.
"It is a great honour to take over this role - I feel very humble about it," he said.
Born in Coxwold, Councillor Featherstone has lived and worked in the village all his life, running a coal and haulage business there for 33 years.
His local government work began 28 years ago when he became a Coxwold parish councillor.
He was elected to the district council 11 years ago.
