A BID for European cash which would bring more jobs to a market town looks set to be made, council chiefs have confirmed.
If successful, the bid would see more businesses setting up on Stokesley's industrial park, where Hambleton District Council is considering establishing a managed work- space project.
But the scheme of incubator units - where businesses can get support during their first three years - will only be possible with outside funding.
Cabinet members have agreed to press ahead with a feasibility study before a final decision is made. The study will include identifying other financial partners.
Under the scheme, ten starter units, along with administrative support and a training unit, would be housed in one building in the centre of the industrial park.
Councillor Ralph Andrew, spokesman for economic development, said: "This scheme will allow us to help more new businesses start up in Stokesley, bringing more jobs to the town.
"Providing administrative and technical support, and advice in a business's infancy, gives it the best possible chance of survival.
"It will also be able to give existing businesses on the estate and in Stokesley town centre the support they need - something that is not available on a local level at the moment."
