REPLACED - some say "suppressed" - more than 30 years ago, the traditional Catholic Mass, in Latin, begins its comeback in Middlesbrough tomorrow.
Among those attending the celebration will be Dr Carol Byrne from Nunthorpe who claims that the traditional Mass - "the greatest and holiest of the Church's possessions" - disappeared in a "landslide of desacrilisation" and was "submerged by the influx of profane elements introduced by the reformers".
Worse, perhaps, the new Order of Mass was "put together by a committee".
Tomorrow's 6pm Mass, at the St Mary's Centre in Corporation Road, is organised by the Society of St Pius X, led by Fr Matthew Clifton and will become a monthly event on the second Sunday. More from the Latin quarter next week.
