The new Mayor of Darlington, Councillor Doris Jones, will be installed in a ceremony at the town hall on Thursday, at 7pm.
Coun Jones will take over the office from Councillor Isobel Hartley.

LEARNING ADVICE: Shoppers at the Cornmill Centre, Darlington, were told about learning opportunities in the town when Darlington College of Technology set up a stall on Saturday to mark National Adult Learners Week. A demonstration was held to promote a calligraphy course which the college hopes to set up if there is enough demand.

HOUSE SCHEME: A plan to build a three-bedroom house to replace a demolished former gatehouse at The Gatehouse, Skipbridge, Hurworth Moor, has been submitted to Darlington Borough Council by Richard Hadland.

TABLE THEFT: A combined oak table and bench, worth £70, was stolen from the Square and Compass pub, West Cornforth, on Saturday.
