A NEW mayor and deputy mayor will be chosen at the annual meeting of Great Aycliffe Town Council, at the council offices, School Aycliffe Lane, on Wednesday, at 7.15pm.

PAN BLAZE: Firefighters extinguished a chip pan fire at a home in Hawthorne Road, Middlestone Moor, Spennymoor, just before 1pm yesterday.

HOUSE RAID: A digital videodisc player, a Sony hi-fi system and speakers, 27 videodiscs and some compact discs, worth a total of £1,100, were stolen from a house in Half Moon Lane, Spennymoor, between 6.30pm and 9.40pm on Saturday.
