A woman who was killed when her Nissan Micra was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the A19 near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, has been named.
Joanne Elizabeth Devine, 22, of Tawny Close, Eston, Middlesbrough, died in hospital after the accident last Friday afternoon. An inquest is expected to be opened in Middlesbrough today.
Hotel re-opens: The Grand Hotel in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, re-opened yesterday, after a sickness and diarrhoea bug forced its closure over the weekend. The venue was thoroughly cleaned after more than 200 guests were affected by the highly-infectious Norwalk virus during the past two weeks. There have been no reported cases since Friday.
Attack arrests: Teesside police have arrested five men in connection with an attack on a taxi driver whose cab was hijacked and set fire to, in the Overfields area of Middlesbrough, last week. The men, aged between 18 and 22, have been released on police bail pending the results of tests. Last night, Cleveland Police thanked the public for their help and calls following the incident.
Hospital fire: Firefighters were called to Guisborough General Hospital, Church Lane, east Cleveland, yesterday morning after a small blaze on the roof. Fire crews from Guisborough and Skelton attended and put out the fire quickly.
NEW-LOOK TIMETABLE: Arriva Trains Northern has redesigned train timetables at 30 of its stations in the region, making them easier to read. The new timetables are laid out in alphabetical format.
Golden touch: A health trust is being presented with a top trophy from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. The Tees and North East Yorkshire NHS Trust, which has won the society's gold occupational and safety award for its commitment to health and safety, will receive the honour at a ceremony in Birmingham, tomorrow.
Friends in need: People aged 50 and over are being recruited to set up a befriending service in an area of Middlesbrough. The Retired and Senior Volunteer programme is looking for helpers in the Newport, West Lane or Whinney Banks areas, to provide companionship and support for older people who may be lonely, vulnerable or who just want a friend.
MISSING TEENAGER: Police are growing concerned for the safety of Alexander James Pegram, 14, of Cardinal Close, Longbenton, Newcastle, who has been missing since Saturday, May 4. He was last seen at a festival, in Leazes Park, Newcastle. He is described as 6ft tall, of skinny build, with shaved blond hair, a spotty complexion and blue eyes.
MARATHON APPEAL: Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital is looking for fundraisers to take part in the Great North Run in October. The hospital has 150 places in the world's biggest half marathon for runners who can guarantee to raise £300 in sponsorship.
