THE Commander-in-Chief of Land Command, General Sir Mike Jackson, was among the officers who watched soldiers preparing for a military exercise at Catterick Garrison.
19 Mechanised Brigade is among the units on their way to Canada later this year - and the general was able to watch soldiers rehearse their role as a rapid response force on the moors above the camp.
Brigadier Bill Moore, bri-gade commander, said: "The aim of the visit was to show General Jackson just how capable we are as a deployable force.
"It is our aim to be the brigade's first choice if a crisis develops where British forces are required.
"It was also a good opportunity for many of the soldiers to meet a man who has been at the very forefront of peace-keeping missions around the world, and who is highly regarded by them."
Gen Jackson, who watched members of the 1st Battalion The King's Own Scottish Borderers, the 1st Battalion The King's Regiment, and the 1st Battalion The Queen's Lancashire Regiment, led British forces in Kosovo in 1999.
