THE new directly-elected mayor of Hartlepool has selected a cross-party cabinet of councillors to work with him.
Following a series of meetings with representatives from all political parties plus a number of independent councillors, Mayor Stuart Drummond announced yesterday that five councillors will join him in the cabinet.
Meetings will be chaired by Mayor Drummond who will have special responsibility for youth, crime and sport.
He will be joined by Moss Boddy, regeneration and the economy, John Lauderdale, town management, Stanley Fortune, resources and performance management, Cath Hill, social and health care and Robbie Payne, lifelong learning and skills.
He can however, replace or add further councillors to the cabinet at any time.
He said: "Although I have no political affiliations myself, I am pleased that all the political parties have a voice in the cabinet and I am sure everyone will work together for the benefit of the town.
"All of the councillors I have spoken to have been extremely supportive and put forward constructive views.
"It was not an easy decision and I am sure some people will be disappointed at being left out. However, my door will always be open to any of the council's 47 councillors who want to put their thoughts and views to me."
The cabinet meets for the first time on May 20 and will be open to members of the public.
