POLICE seized heroin with a street value of £7,000 during a raid on a property in Middlesbrough.
Officers found the drugs, and £5,000 cash, before arresting a man for possession with intent to supply heroin. He was bailed pending forensic results. Following a separate raid, a 26-year-old man was charged with possession of cannabis and bailed to appear before Teesside Magistrates' Court. In total, seven raids were carried out by Middlesbrough Police last week as part of their Dealer-a-Day campaign, which has so far resulted in 211 arrests from 219 raids against suspected drug dealers in the town. Drugs with a street value of approximately £55,250 have been recovered and more than £35,180 in cash seized. Anyone with information about drug dealers is asked to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Blast arrest: A 20-year-old man has been arrested following an explosion in a wheelie bin in Saltburn on Saturday night. The force of the explosion shattered windows and set burglar alarms off in the Oxford Road and Montrose Street area of the east Cleveland town. Yesterday, the man was released on police bail pending further inquiries and forensic reports. A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said police were no longer looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Girl found: A teenager who has been missing since last month has been found safe and well. Lisa Kernaghan had been living in a children's home in Teesside when she disappeared from her Redcar school just days before her 15th birthday. Yesterday a spokesman for Cleveland Police said that she had been found safe and well in the Redcar area.
sentence cut: A man who sexually molested a 12-year-old girl at a leisure centre had his jail sentence cut by a third yesterday. Peter Ivor Smith, 30, of Crawley Road, Wallsend, Newcastle, was jailed for three years on October 15, last year, after he pleaded guilty to indecent assault at Chester Crown Court. London's Criminal Appeal Court cut his term to two years, taking into account Smith's prompt guilty plea.
Crash identity: A motorcyclist who died after crashing into a roundabout near Scarborough, North Yorkshire, has been identified by police. Christopher Hewick, 40, of Wetherby Road, York, died in hospital on Friday night following the accident on the A64 at Seamer.
first fair: The first Cumbrian producers' fair to take place in York will be launched today. The event, which will be in Parliament Street until Saturday, is showcasing Cumbrian craft work and giftware, as well as speciality food.
Reggae poet: The world's first reggae poet, LKJ, is coming to the region. LKJ has performed around the world including gigs in Seattle, New York, Paris and Belgium. He will be reading from his new collection at Darlington Arts Centre on Wednesday, May 29.
Charity parties: A charity is asking people to hold tea parties to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee. The idea is to use recipes from the end of rationing and charge for the food.
