AN APPEAL has been made by Darlington Borough Council for volunteers to become school governors.
Volunteers, who do not receive payment, need to be reliable, dedicated and interested in the future of education.
Governors do not need to have a child at the school where they serve.
The council's cabinet member for education, Councillor Eleanor Lister, said: "It is a very hard job but very rewarding. Governors make very important decisions, including the recruitment of staff, and it is vital that we recruit people who want to get involved in education in the town."
Anyone interested can contact the council for an informal discussion about the role and what it involves.
