THREE colleagues are scaling Britain's three main peaks in memory of a friend who died of cancer.
Steven Young, Steven Wilkinson and Andy Collishaw, who work at Darlington Borough Council, will climb Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in 24 hours, on June 21, to raise money for cancer research.
Their effort, in aid of the Beaton Bowel Cancer Trust, will be in memory of their friend of ten years, Mark Godfrey, who died from bowel cancer aged 32.
Mr Young said: "We were going to do this challenge ourselves, but then we decided we could raise money. Originally we thought about raising £100, but £1,000 would be great."
The three climbers will be aided by a two-man support team. Between them the climbers are running up to 40 miles a week in training, as well as spending time in the gym.
Anyone wishing to make a donation can contact Steven Wilkinson at Darlington Town Hall on (01325) 388292.
