YOUNG soldiers will pay their respects to those who died fighting in the Falklands through a series of tough training exercises and a poignant ceremony of remembrance next week.
Recruits destined for the Parachute Regiment, the Guards and the Gurkhas are now honed for service at the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick Garrison, in North Yorkshire, where many of the instructors are Falklands veterans themselves.
They will all take part in a parade at Helles Barracks on Tuesday, where the names of those who lost their lives will be read out.
The trainees will also demonstrate their readiness for action in the training exercises.
"It is the first time since the Falklands War that these three specialist infantry battalions have been based in a barracks together so it seems fitting these future soldiers should display their specialist skills before taking part in the commemoration service,'' said 3rd Battalion second-in-command, Major Tim Cain.
"Many have relatives who served in the South Atlantic and some of the instructors were deployed at the time. The memorial service will be a time for solace and thanksgiving.
