A SCHOOL has been praised by a national charity for its efforts to raise money to help the victims of leprosy in developing countries.
Angela Lisle, the North-East community fundraiser for Lepra was presented with a cheque for £1,717 by the girls of Teesside High School, Eaglescliffe.
More than half of the girls in the school gave up a lunchtime to participate in a sponsored aerobics workout in support of Lepra, which has pioneered treatments for the disabling disease.
Mrs Lisle presented the school with a plaque. She said the money would enable 81 children and young adults to receive treatment and would give them back a life worth living.
Rebecca Kirk, the school's charity organiser, said: "The girls have worked very hard, both during the workout and since, collecting the money."
