Bishop Auckland FC wing half Bob Thursby takes a pass from club team mate Warren Bradley to score for the England Amateur XI playing Switzerland B. Thursby's goal made the scoreline 2-2 and the England team goes on to win 3-2.

Former Crook Town FC player Wilson Hepplewhite is given a free transfer by Carlisle United. Hepplewhite joined Crook from Arsenal in August 1964 and was a member of the Crook team narrowly beaten 1-0 by Oldham in the 1964/65 FA Cup competition.

Twins Amanda and Gail Wakefield, joint captains of the Alderman Leach Junior School netball team, take their team to the final of the Nationwide School Netball tournament in Darlington. The final against Reid Street Junior School ended 3-3 but netball teachers Isabella Burton and Lynn Holmes decide against extra time as the final is such a good game. Both schools share the trophy.
Colin Blackburn hits 151 not out for Richmondshire CC against Bishop Auckland II, Gordon Pratt scores 121 not out for Crook Town CC against Shildon BR CC.

A thunderstorm can't stop Wearside athlete Tim Field winning a ten-mile race at Croxdale. Archie Jenkins of Morpeth wins the veteran's race while heather Robinson of Chester-le-Street takes the women's event.
