A Hoggarth and Sons Eskvale and Cleveland League
Highland Laddie finished the season gaining victory in both the remaining cup finals.
On Wednesday they played Brotton WMC in the Eileen Hodgson Bowl but Brotton took the lead on six minutes when Kevin Bowers shot into the bottom corner of the net.
Laddie had the occasional break but were under constant attack. However, the game remained at 1-0 at the break. In the second half Laddie pressed hard and a foul on Steven Combellack saw Nesam curl the resulting free kick into the top corner of the net to level the score. With just minutes to go a second free kick curled into the top corner of the net by O'Brien to give Laddie the trophy.
Saturday saw Laddie in action again taking on Lealholm in the final of the Whitby Benevolent Cup. The first half was a scrappy end to end affair and the second half similar and with no goals at the end of 90 minutes the game went into extra time. Laddie continued to press and a long throw from Mervyn Nesbitt saw Brian Combellack slot the ball home. Minutes later the same player eluded everyone and gave Laddie a two-goal advantage going into the second sessions. Minutes after the restart Combellack scrambled the ball into the net for Laddie's third then Phil Heathcock scored his first goal of the season. Lealholm almost got a consolation goal but Matthew Nesbitt kept a clean sheet for the Laddie defence.
