Kirbymoorside 10k
FOURTEEN Harriers, five men and nine women competed in this very attractive, hilly run on a cold and windy but dry day. The race was won by John Hunter of Loftus AC in a time of 33.4 minutes.
Walter Busuttil finished in an excellent fifth place in 36.25. John Yates was in tenth place in 37.43, Alasdair Thorpe was 83rd in 45.21, Sally Harrison 105th in 47.28, husband Steve in 106th place in 47.3, Karen Hudson 173rd in 52.27, Louise Savory 178th in 53.22, Ian Codling 179th in 53.23, Nicola Thorpe 180th in 53.3, Judith Seaton 181st in 53.35, Pamela Sherlock 209th in 58.44, Kirsty Watts 233rd in 63.53, Chris MacAleenan was 237th in 64.57 and Marian Codling 243rd in 66.49. Louise Savory's mum, Christine, representing Prestatyn, finished in a time of 57.48 in 203rd place. In all there were 253 finishers in a pleasant and well organised race.
In contrast, the Wiggington 10k on Bank Holiday Monday was a flat course and was also friendly and well organised. Out of 312 finishers, Ian Codling was in 211th place in 50.44 minutes, Pamela Sherlock was 273rd in 56.51 and Marian Codling was 301st in 64.06. All finishers received a very attractive hand made pottery mug.
The second Harrogate League fixture took place at Harlow Carr, Harrogate on May 7 and the race was won by Ian Fisher of Otley in 26.35 minutes with Alan Stimpson of Harrogate in second place in 27.02. Walter Busuttil was again the first Thirsk and Sowerby runner to finish in 17th place in 30.28. Mervin Burn was 26th in 31.14, Richard Soper 76th in 35.09, Ernie Huck 85th in 36.02, Alan Somers in 90th and Hywel Smith in 91st were given the same time, 36.17, Geoff Bullock 99th in 36.53. Jill Soper was again the first Thirsk and Sowerby lady to finish, in a time of 37.20, Pat Kirby was 145th in 40.54, Maureen Gibbs 153rd in 42.21, Karen Hudson 169th in 44.50, Louise Savory 170th in 45.23, Heather Foxall 175th in 46.35 and Kaye Mechie 178th in 47.14. In all there were 189 runners.
