A GIANT kite built to celebrate the golden jubilee is taking to the skies.
Jock Walker, from Darlington, has spent weeks making the crown kite from red nylon. Mr Walker has been building kites for more than 20 years and is a member of the North-East Kite Flyers.
He is hoping to fly his latest creation above Darlington at a fun day in August to raise money for St Teresa's Hospice.
Mr Walker said: "I really enjoy my hobby. I'm 69 years young, I refuse to grow up."
The crown kite was flown last week in Preston Park, Middlesbrough, and will be on display at the weekend in Cleethorpes.
