AS many as 1,400 schoolchildren from North Yorkshire took each other on in a series of sporting challenges at Catterick Garrison.
The county's Youth Games were hosted by Richmondshire this year, which linked up with the Ministry of Defence to stage the event. It enables young people to show of their sporting prowess in a host of events which pit district against district.
The winners this year were: athletics: Ryedale; girls basketball: Scarborough; boys basketball: Harrogate; girls under-15 inter-cricket: Harrogate; girls under-13 inter-cricket: Scarborough; girls under-14 football: York; girls under-11 football: York; netball: Harrogate; tennis: Selby; table tennis: Scarborough: girls under-14 tag rugby: Craven; girls under-11 tag rugby: Craven; boys rugby league: York; mixed under-11 hockey: Harrogate; girls under-13 hockey: York; boys under-13 hockey: Richmond; Orienteering: Richmond; Sportsability: Harrogate.
