ORGANISERS of a charity football tournament taking place this summer are hoping to cash in on World Cup fever and raise £2,000. The Super Six soccer tournament will be held at Thirsk's floodlit pitch on August 3 and is expected to attract teams from across the country. Hambleton District Council has joined forces with the town's Buxted Sports and Social Club to stage the event. Money collected through entries and other activities will go to the Moonbeam Charity, which raises money for children with cancer. Library course: Scar-borough library is offering local people a chance to get a taste for learning with a series of short courses. The first takes place on Thursday, May 23, from noon to 1pm, and gives participants an opportunity to learn relaxation techniques. The course is free. Falconry display: A falconry demonstration will take place at Kirkham Priory, near Malton, on Saturday, May 25, and Sunday, May 26. Members of Raphael Falconry display team will be showing visitors a range of skills involving hawks, falcons and eagle owls.
CHARITY SPLASH: Fifty youngsters are expected to take part in a sponsored "splashathon" at Stokesley leisure centre's swimming pool next month. The challenge has been set up to raise money for the children's charity, Tommy's. To take part contact the centre's assistant manager, David Earl, on (01642) 711140.
GARDEN PARTY: A garden party will be held at Welburn Hall, near Kirkbymoorside, on Sunday, May 26, from 10am to 4pm. The event will raise money for Kirkdale churches and will include a plant sale, tombola, cake stall and children's activities.
ART EXHIBITION: Paintings by Yorkshire artist Christine Heath will be exhibited at Adze Gallery, Goodramgate, York, from May 31 to June 12. Her work, inspired by the moors and sea at Robin Hood's Bay, can be viewed daily between 11am and 4pm.
Concert date: A musical recital will be held in Kirkbymoorside memorial hall tomorrow, at 7.30pm, to raise funds for Amnesty International. Admission is £5 at the door.
Charity boost: The Kirkbymoorside Marie Curie Cancer Care support group raised £385 through cake and produce stalls in Towler's Arch recently.
