AN organisation which helps young people with learning difficulties to bridge the gap between school and either college or work has been awarded a grant by the National Lottery.
The Hambleton and Richmondshire Advocacy Scheme has won £102,711 from the Community Fund to spend over the next three years.
The cash will be invested in projects which aim to help 16 to 19-year-olds with special needs to communicate, make decisions and gain more control over their own lives.
"We are delighted," said manager Penny Pilling. "The grant will secure provision of advocacy services for young people in the area for the next three years.
"There is currently no specific service for them and we hope our project will enable them to enjoy equal rights and opportunities."
The advocacy service was set up eight years ago to help vulnerable people from the Northallerton and Richmond areas.
The advice offered is confidential and free, pointing those with needs to the right service provider.
