MICHAEL Dalton is the new Mayor of Great Aycliffe.
Councillor Dalton took over the role from Councillor Sheila Mlatilik this week.
His mother, Mary Dalton, who was recently elected to the council, has been installed as mayoress and Councillor Malcolm Iveson is the new deputy mayor.
Coun Mlatilik said she had enjoyed a "wonderful year".
She said: "I have met some wonderful people from all walks of life and have been privileged to witness at first hand the achievement and talents of people within the parish."
She presented a cheque for £5,100 to representatives from her chosen charity, the District Nurses Trust Fund, raised through events during her year in office.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Bob Fleming, thanked her for her "commitment, grace and dignity".
Coun Dalton sad he would carry out his duties to the best of his ability and the Sedgefield Locality Carers' Centre would be his charity.
