A DURHAM infants' school is celebrating after winning the Investor in People award.
Newton Hall Infant School staff received the award from comedian Frank Carson at Lumley Castle, Chester-le-Street.
The school, which won the award at the first attempt, is among only 23 per cent of County Durham schools to hold it.
It is given to organisations, usually private companies, which can show assessors commitment to staff development.
Delighted headteacher Susan Edgar said: "Usually, we get awards for academic achievement, but this time we have been recognised as valuing, developing and looking after our staff.
"All of the staff are valued, not just the teachers."
Staff are also celebrating a £3,200 achievement award from the Department of Education, for the school's results in English and maths tests, which it won last year.
Half the pupils at key stage one achieved level three, which is well above the national average.
