THEY may be more used to marching over land but injured infantry recruits put their trunks on for charity this week.
The Williams Company at the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick Garrison is made up of young recruits who have picked up injuries during their induction to Army life.
However, they are still expected to remain as active as possible and, in all, 92 took part in the Sharron Davies Swim a Mile Challenge over two days this week.
Some split the required 53 lengths into two sessions to make sure they were not putting rehabilitation programmes in jeopardy.
Instructor Sergeant Chris Blackledge said many could be proud of their achievements. "We use the water to work resistance against the injury without further damage; it is an ideal way to keep them fit and to help with their recovery," he said.
The company hopes to have raised £1,000 for Childline.
