Billingham were triumphant when they competed at the NEC's (Northern England Championships) at Pond Forge, Sheffield. Bringing home a gold, silver and bronze. Out of 37 swims 27 personal bests were accomplished.
In the ten-year-old category swimming for the first time in a 50 metre pool. Glen Martin was victorious gaining gold position for his 50m free, following it up with a 10th position for his 50m fly and 11th in his 50m back.
Anthony Brown swimming in the Teesside 'A' freestyle team was successful in winning a bronze medal. In his other races he came 21st in the 50m back, 26th in the 50m free and 36th in the 50m breast.
Matthew Calvert came 42nd in his 50m free.
Rebecca Blane achieved a 43rd place for her 50m back and came 44th in the 50m free.
Four 11 year olds qualified. In the boys Christopher Wilkinson was our other successful medal winner gaining a silver in the 50m fly. He also gained excellent places coming 5th in the 50m free and 9th in the 50m back. Brad Dixon also achieved good results coming 10th in the 50m free, 14th in the 50m back, 18th in the 50m fly and 36th in the 50m breast. Craig Grounds completed the boys with a 24th in the 50m fly and 39th in the 50m free.
Kerry Hassall competing in the 50m back came 22nd.
Two 12-year-olds competed Liam Sutheran in the 50m fly came 32nd and Joanne Longster in the 50m back gained a personal best.
Three 14-year-olds swam Shane Hassall for the boys contributed to an 8th place with the Teesside Bagcat Freestyle B team, then excellent high places with a 9th for the 50m free, 10th in the 50m breast and 29th in the 50m back. The girls swam excellently Jane Usher coming19th in the 50m free, 24th in the 50m back and also competing in the 50m breast. Emma Wilson came 25th in the 50m back and 37th in the 50m free.
Three 15/16 year olds swam brilliantly. Greg Dixon part of the Teesside 'B' Youth Freestyle team came 9th with swims in the 50m fly coming 8th, 50m breast 11th, 50m free 20th and 50m back 26th. Ian Kelly gained a 13th in the 50m breast and 43rd in the 50m free. Peter Riddle accomplished an 18th in the 50m back and 29th in the 50m free.
