The Sedgefield 75 squad's senior team played Newcastle University in the Northumberland and Durham senior league at Newton Aycliffe leisure centre.

This was the most exciting game in Sedgefield's five year existence witnessed by the home supporters.

At the end of the first period Sedgefield were behind 3-2 to the students who included several national league players and a Greek international professional player.

In the second period George Carpenter, Sedgefield's chief coach and ex-Gt Britain forward, entered the game and turned it round for the home side with four goals for Sedgefield to lead 6-4 at half time. The third period saw the university take command again to lead 10-8. The university quickly extended this to 12-8 in the final period and Sedgefield looked out of it. However Sedgefield stormed back to draw level with 20 seconds remaining. With seven seconds left Adam Burton put Sedgefield in front and then Sedgefield were awarded a penalty with four seconds left which Mark Jones scored from. Sedgefield regained possession from the restart and Carpenter scored with the last shot of the game for Sedgefield to win 15-12 and keep their home record intact. They haven't lost at home for over three years. George Carpenter showed why at 44 years old he still holds all the national league's goal scoring records by scoring ten goals. He was ably supported by captain Lee Cooke, veterans Stephen Guy and David Morgan.

Sedgefield's younger members of the team Peter Atkinson, Tom Smith, Adam Burton, David Farmer, Mark Jones, Oliver Metcalfe and Tom McEneany all gave very encouraging displays.
