A CITY centre landmark has been restored to its former glory after skateboarders caused £10,000 worth of damage.
The fountain in Parliament Street, in the centre of York, traditionally a focal point for tourists and shoppers, had been closed off for four months after the marble stonework was cracked and split by skateboarders.
They have also been blamed for damage to paving stones and seats elsewhere in the city centre, including a paved area just outside York Minster.
Minster chapter clerk Martin Vevers said stones on the edges of steps near the west side and coping stones around a lamp standard had been cracked by skateboarders.
City of York Council appealed for skateboarders to use facilities at Foss Bank rather than the city centre.
