A FORMER archdeacon who won plaudits for his inner-city work is celebrating 50 years of ministry.
Retired archdeacon of Richmond Norman McDermid put youth work to the fore while he was vicar of Bramley in 1957 with successful youth clubs and thriving Sunday schools in his parish.
He went on to become rector of Kirkby Overblow, near Harrogate, before serving as vicar in Knaresborough.
Archdeacon McDermid, who is 75, lives at Bedale, North Yorkshire where he still conducts services.
On June 9, he will preach at an anniversary service in Bedale.
