VOTERS went to the polls in Hartlepool again this week - but this time there was not a monkey suit in sight.

Pupils at High Tunstall School took time out from lessons to vote for their head boy and girl during their annual elections. Following a day of hustings, candidates stepped back and let voters and fellow pupils make their choice.

Using signs and ballot boxes left over from Hartlepool's recent mayoral election, the election took just over an hour. The results were: head boy - Stuart Bell; deputy head boy - Gehan Wanduragala; head girl - Jill Archbold; deputy head girl - Jennifer Chapman.
