AN art gallery is hosting an exhibition celebrating children's books.
Until September 15, visitors to Newcastle's Laing Art Gallery can view fine art as part of the Magic Pencil exhibition.
Specially selected by the celebrated author and illustrator Quentin Blake, who illustrated Roald Dahl's books, it features Mr Blake's own work, as well as that of Raymond Briggs, Tony Ross, John Burningham and Posy Simmonds.
In addition to showing each of the illustrators' drawings, the exhibition incorporates a small cinema showing the animated works of several artists, including Raymond Briggs' The Bear and Father Christmas, Michael Foreman's War Games and Tony Ross's Towser.
It is aimed at people of all ages, and deals with subjects ranging from the Second World War and nuclear war, to fairy tales and fables.
Julie Milne, curator of the Laing Art Gallery, said: "We are so excited about showing this exhibition and thrilled we can bring these works to the region.
"The authors' and illustrators' work is stunning, and I'm positive everyone will love the show."
