AN appeal was renewed last night for information about a fatal crash involving a single vehicle.
The driver of a Volkswagen Golf Gti car, who was thrown from the vehicle, was certified dead at the scene of the accident on a cross-boundary road, between Birtley, near Gateshead, and Ouston, near Chester-le-Street, in County Durham.
Police yesterday identified the motorist as Jason Parker, 31, who lived at the Bewick Main Caravan Park, at Kibblesworth, near Gateshead.
It is understood Mr Parker, the only occupant of the car, was travelling west on Station Lane, towards the caravan site, in the early hours on Saturday.
A police spokesman said: "It appears the vehicle has struck a kerb while negotiating a bend, causing it to overturn, throwing the driver from the car."
A stretch of Station Lane on both sides of the accident site remained closed to motorists for more than three hours while the ctash scene was examined and debris was removed.
Investigators have appealed for witnesses who saw either the accident, or the Golf on Station Lane prior to the incident, shortly before 3am, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the accident investigation unit at Durham Police headquarters, on 0191-386 4929.
