POLICE hunting robbers who attacked a pensioner in his home have arrested two men.
The men were held in Hartlepool yesterday on suspicion of involvement in an aggravated burglary and taken to Consett police station, County Durham, for questioning.
Their arrests relate to an incident on Saturday when an 82-year-old former soldier was subjected to a violent assault by two men in the hallway of his home in Cornsay Colliery, north-west Durham.
He was punched, kicked and threatened with a poker by his attackers, who demanded money. The men, thought to be in their thirties, drove off in a car which had been parked nearby.
The victim was treated at Bishop Auckland Hospital for facial and hand injuries.
Detective Inspector Simon Orton, of Derwentside CID, urged people with information about the incident to contact police on (01207) 504204.
