ACCIDENT investigators are still trying to trace an AA patrolman who may have been a witness to a fatal road accident.
Police have renewed their appeal for information about the accident on the A1(M) on Sunday, March 31.
They believe the AA man, and a couple travelling in a Toyota Celica, may have important information about the collision in which a man from Ferryhill, County Durham, sustained fatal injuries.
The accident happened at about 9.30pm on the northbound carriageway of the motorway, just south of junction 61 at Bowburn.
A green Renault Scenic, driven by 71-year-old John Clare, of Wood Lane, Ferryhill, County Durham, collided with the back of an Iveco articulated low-loader vehicle.
Mr Clare suffered serious leg, hip and other injuries, and died in Newcastle General Hospital on April 13.
PC Keith Butler said: "Our enquiries indicated the AA patrolman assisted at the scene of the accident, but has not come forward as a witness.
"We believe he, and a man and a woman in a Toyota Celica, may have valuable information about the incident."
The police accident unit can be contacted on 0191-386 4929.
