A DRIVE to recruit more foster carers is being organised by Darlington social services.
As part of new Government guidelines, the foster care team from Darlington Social Services will be holding an open day on Thursday and Friday at Morrisons supermarket, in North Road. Single people will be able to apply, but are warned that a full police check and medical are needed. No specific qualifications are required and training and support is given. GARAGE BURGLED: Fishing equipment valued at more than £400 was stolen from a garage in Swaledale Avenue, Darlington, between 6pm on Tuesday and 5pm on Friday, after thieves broke in through a window. A Maver float fishing rod, Maver feeder rod, Syntel feeder rod and a blue Shimano canal fishing box were stolen. JUBILEE FUN: Sadberge Village Hall Association is holding a Jubilee Fun Day on Saturday, June 1, with Maypole dancing, a clown and more. The event runs from 2pm, and the event is free.
WALL PLANS: Darlington Borough Council has received a planning application to build a front wall and gate at 2 Hamilton Drive, Darlington.
PROPOSED EXTENSION: A planning application for an extension to the rear of 3 Hawkswood, Hurworth Place, has been submitted to Darlington Borough Council.
CHURCH BREAK-INA fire extinguisher, valued at £60, was stolen from Burnhill Way Methodist Church, in Sid Chaplin Drive, Newton Aycliffe, after the doors were forced open between 7pm on Friday and 10am on Sunday.
SEQUENCE DANCE: There will be a modern sequence dance at the Witham Hall, in Barnard Castle, on Friday, between 8pm and 11pm. Graeme Scarlett will be playing the organ. Admission is £3.50 and includes pie and peas.
BUS damaged: A brick was thrown through the window of an Arriva North-East bus, in Williamfield Way, Newton Aycliffe, at 8.50pm on Sunday.
SHED BURGLED: A Saracen black and silver mountain bike, a lawnmower, strimmer and trimmer, worth a total of £400, were stolen from a shed in Church Lane, Ferryhill, between 8pm and 10pm, on Friday.
ARTS PROJECT: Terry the Paper Wizard will be visiting Aycliffe Village Primary School as part of the BBC TV Big Arts Week programme, a practical art seminar for schoolchildren, throughout the day and at the after-school club on Wednesday, June 19.
