TWO confirmed sightings have been made of a missing university student following a public appeal for information by his distraught family.

Ross Edmond, 22, left his home in Eaglescliffe, Teesside last Thursday and has failed to make contact with his family.

On Tuesday, his father Martin, appealed for Ross to get in touch with family or friends to let them know he is okay.

He said it was a complete mystery as to why Ross was missing and appealed for the public's help in tracing him.

Following the appeal, two sightings of Ross, who is studying chemical engineering at Sheffield University, have been made.

One at a campsite in Bromton-on-Swale, where Ross is believed to have stayed on Friday evening and another at a campsite in Muker, North Yorkshire over the weekend.

However, police are still concerned about Ross's whereabouts.

Inspector Colin White said: "Ross had no money, no toiletries or food with him, wet weather gear or change of clothing.

"We would urge him to ring his family or police to let them know he is safe and well."

Ross, who is thought to be in possession of a tent, is driving a blue Vauxhall Corsa - N659 UVN. Anybody who has seen the car is asked to contact Insp White on (01642) 302226.
