A MUSEUM worker from the North-East has been selected from thousands of applicants to attend an event to mark the Queen's golden jubilee at Buckingham Palace.
Almut Gruner, fundraising coordinator for the Bowes Museum, in Barnard Castle, has been chosen from hundreds of thousands of people who applied to see the Prom in the Park concert in London. The event is the first of two concerts that will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Queen's reign next month.
Miss Gruner has been given an extra ticket for a friend, so she has invited her colleague, Louise Stephenson, to attend the concert on June 1.
Miss Gruner said: "I applied on-line without knowing that Louise had also done so.
"It was only after a conversation later that we realised.
"I feel very lucky to have been picked for this special occasion in Buckingham Palace gardens.
"It will be very exciting to attend this memorable event, as part of the golden jubilee celebrations."
Miss Stephenson said: "I am really happy to be able to go to London with Almut. I am sure that we will both enjoy the evening very much. It happens to be my birthday on that day as well, so it will be a very special occasion."
The classical concert programme includes performances by baritone Sir Thomas Allen and soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
A pop concert, Party in the Park, will be held on June 4.
