A performing arts student is hoping to make a name for herself in London's West End after winning a scholarship to a leading acting school.
Leanne Hoyle, 21, of Sunderland University, has been offered a three-year scholarship at the Guildford School of Acting, which has produced stars such as Michael Ball, Gaby Roslin and Owen Teale.
The offer means Leanne, who graduates this summer from the university's School of Arts, Design and Media, will realise her dream of working in London's West End.
She had to undergo several rigorous singing, dancing and acting auditions before she was accepted.
She said: "I was so excited when they told me I had been offered a place. I couldn't believe it.
"Guildford is one of the best drama schools in the country, so it is a dream come true for me.
"Now I have been accepted I can concentrate on realising my dream of working in the West End.
"Getting into the school guarantees you a job when you graduate. West End producers come down during students' final year to offer them jobs."
Lesley Younger, principal lecturer in dance at the university, said: "Leanne is an excellent all-round performer. She has everything.
"I am sure she is going to be one of the stars of the future. She is so dedicated and determined to succeed.
