PLANS for a concert in Thornaby to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee have been met with opposition from residents.
Stockton Borough Council has received an application from NHP Event Management to hold two concerts over the jubilee weekend.
The proposed events are a big band dance on Saturday, June 1, and a 70s concert, featuring The Sweet, the next day.
It is planned to hold them in an old RAF hangar on the old airfield at Master Road, Thornaby, from 6pm to 11.30pm each night.
However, the council has received a petition and letters objecting to the plans from residents concerned that the amount of noise generated by the concerts may be too great.
Mary Butler, who lives near the site, said: "Both my husband and I are horrified at even the thought of the noise. It would vibrate around that hangar and be horrendous."
NHP Management said it would make regular announcements asking concert-goers to respect local residents with regard to noise.
It is also going to install sound suppression hangings in the hangar and public address systems will be angled away from walls nearest to residential properties.
The council's licensing committee meets on Tuesday to discuss the plans.
