THE long-running debate over the eyesore of Scarborough's South Bay Pool complex - derelict for the past decade - is about to come to an end.
The borough council's cabinet has given the go-ahead for plans to be submitted to its development control committee to carry out a £1.4m facelift for the area.
The pool, which closed because of structural defects, was used for diving events in the 1948 Olympic Games.
Derek Rowell, director of technical services, said it was vital that the scheme got approval soon to enable a bid for cash to be made to the European Union's regional development fund and Yorkshire Forward the Government's regional development agency.
The scheme will fill in and landscape the pool and see derelict buildings demolished
