Darlington and Stockton Times Wensleydale Evening League
At the start of division one Leyburn entertained Thorp Perrow. A very close game ensued with Leyburn batting first and scoring 130 for seven from 16 overs. M.Dawson 60 and S.Dawson 48, with J.Abbotson being the best bowler for Perrow with four for 28. In reply Thorp Perrow fell five runs short with S Oyston 29 and T Howard 52no. Leyburn's best bowler was I Smith three for 40.
West Tanfield travelled to Newton-le-Willows for a disappointing show struggleing to score runs freely, Newton's bowlers bowled very tight, after 10 overs they were 24 for three, D Thompson taking all three wickets for 12. Then B.Hodges came on and took five for 10 and L McGregor two for six. Tanfield finished on 53 all out. Melbourne had a good game behind the stumps taking two stumpings and two catches. Newton made short work of the run chase completing an eight-wicket victory in the 12th over. D Melbourne 21 and B Hodges 17. Masham were at home to Richmond Mavericks and batted first making 134 for three. B Dudgen 52 and A.Broadley 28 a partnership of 64. A Lloyd made 27no with some lusty blows to the finish. Mavericks soon lost wickets and at 24 for five looked out of the game. A Mollit came in and hammered a quick 55 to give some hope, but fell to G Elsworth three for 29. Mavericks were all out for 94. Other bowlers for Masham were R Smurthwaite three for 17 and R Hill two for 9.
In division two Middleham travelled to Crakehall, won the toss and elected to bat but had a disasterous start losing two wickets in the first over for no runs. They then lost 2 more wickets in the eighth over for 34 runs, with only three batsmen reaching double figures Middleham finished on a poor 97 for nine from 16 overs. The wickets wore shared equally amongst the Crakehall bowlers, C Poole two for 20, D Poole two for 21, A Ward two for 22 and L Haslam three for 23.Crakehall made it look too easy reaching the target in 11 overs without losing a wicket. ST Roberts 5 1 no and L Haslam 38no.
In the only remaining game in the league Dales travelled to Spennithorne. Spennithorne had a good start until A Hird got the breakthrough getting L Sedgley 20. Three more wickets fell with. not many more runs being scored. W Farrow 20 and C Fowler 21 were the only batsmen to make double figures. Spennithorne finished 85 all out. Dales bowling figures were A Bird three for 22, C Player three for 29 and D Hutchinson three for 18. Dates in reply lost two very quick wickets through some good bowling from S Walker two for 16, N Winters 27 and H Firth then had a good stand to put Dales in a commanding position. Then I Clarkson two for 22 came on and got both batsmen. Dales just ran out of overs, finishing with only 75 for four from their 16 overs
