The future of former Darlington manager Gary Bennett was uncertain last night just 24 hours after the club stated he was leaving Feethams, writes CRAIG STODDART.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Quakers said that, along with reserve team assistant manager Jim Montgomery, Bennett would be leaving Darlington after four years during which he served as a player, reserve team coach and first team manager.
However, yesterday on the club's official website that statement had been amended to read: "Gary is at the end of his player's contract and we are not renewing it." before saying: "He will remain with the club in a supporting role."
What that supporting role will be remains to be seen and Bennett was last night unable to shed any light on the matter. The former Sunderland defender said he was not in a position to comment on the situation and would only say he is to have a meeting with chairman George Reynolds on Monday.
