Double victory for schoolboys
Cestria Primary School, in Chester-le-Street, celebrated a double victory when their football team won the five-a-side Chester-le-Street area competition and the Durham County competition for the first time. The competition, held at Peterlee Leisure Centre, saw the year six boys beat representatives from other Durham schools. The school also reached the finals of the local schools' league championships.
ADVICE SURGERY: North-East Labour Euro MP Stephen Hughes is holding an advice surgery, at which constituents can raise problems of a European nature, tomorrow at County Hall, Aykley Heads, Durham, from 10am to 11.30am.
TABLE-TOP SALE: A table-top sale will be held at St Andrew's Methodist Church, Brandon, on Saturday, June 8, from 10am to 2pm to raise money for the church building fund. Donations of bric-a-brac and household goods are sought. For details call 0191-378 9588.
CRAFT SESSION: Artist Susan Russell will hold a craft session for six to 11-year-olds at Durham Clayport Library, in the Millennium City complex, tomorrow at 11am. Tickets cost £1.50 and should be booked on 0191-386 4003.
BELMONT SURGERIES: Barbara Howarth, Liberal Democrat Durham county councillor for Belmont, will hold surgeries on Monday, June 10, at Carrville Methodist Church between 6pm and 6.45pm, and at Belmont Library between 7pm and 7.45pm the same night. On Wednesday, June 12, she will hold a surgery in Belmont Community Centre between 6pm and 7pm.
CENTRE FUN: Staff at the Bannatyne Health Club in Belmont will be inviting shoppers to take part in fun activities outside Bhs in Durham's Prince Bishops Shopping Centre tomorrow, between 9am and 5.30pm to raise money for the United Nations Children's Fund.
BOWLED OVER: Teams of eight people are needed to join in a ten pin bowling night to raise money for the charity Against Bowel Cancer, on Tuesday, July 16. About 20 teams are needed for the event at Kas Carda Leisure in Walker Gate, Durham. The cost is £56 per team. There will be a trophy for the winner. Ring (01642) 650888 to book.
PILATES COURSE: Beginners pilates courses start at Chester-le-Street Community Centre on June 13. Sessions involve exercises which improve posture, strength and flexibility. The six-week course costs £16 and takes place on Thursdays from 10.30am to 11.30am. Call (0191) 388 4752 for details.
CHARITY SALE: Elvet Charities Supporters' Group stages a Something for Everyone Sale at The Institute, in Church Street, Durham, tomorrow, at 2pm. It features toys, books, clothing and bric-a-brac stalls, plus a raffle and tea. Admission is 10p.
