A HIGH Court judge reserved his ruling yesterday in a case brought in an attempt to help people conceived by donor insemination to discover more about their parentage.
Mr Justice Scott Baker, sitting in London, is considering an action by postgraduate student Joanna Rose, 28, of Brisbane, Australia, and a six-year-old girl from York, who cannot be named for legal reasons, who were conceived using sperm from anonymous donors.
They want non-identifying information about their fathers and, ultimately, the setting up of a voluntary contact register, which would help tens of thousands of donor offspring to trace their genetic parents.
Monica Carss-Frisk QC, for both claimants, has said that children born from sperm donors should have the right to details about their biological fathers to save them from anger, frustration and hurt.
Government consultation on issues raised in the action is expected to be published in February
