PUPILS jumped, swam, ran, walked and bounced their way through 24 hours as they raised £2,500 for their school.
From 9.30am yesterday to 9.30am today, 120 pupils and sports staff from Roseberry Comprehensive, in Pelton, near Chester-le-Street undertook a daunting schedule of sports to help raise money for the school.
The school is trying to raise £50,000 to secure sports college status and yesterday pupils proved their its credentials for the award.
During the day, half the group walked for six miles along Whitburn beach and then played beach games, while the others went to Wet'n'Wild waterpark in North Shields.
At 5pm they returned to school for a sports carousel throughout the night which involved trampolining, tennis, basketball, gym equipment and other activities, while weary athletes could take a breather in a special rest room.
Head of PE Pam Turner said: "They have never stopped eating. Before 4pm we'd had the picnic lunch, stopped for fish and chips and eaten sweets all day.
"But they have done really well. We never expected to raise so much money."
