PEOPLE taking part in jubilee celebrations are being asked to make a pastry model of one of east Cleveland's best known landmarks.

One of the activities on offer at the jubilee celebrations taking place in the grounds of Gisborough Priory is to make a model of the ruined priory out of pastry.

A team from Real Meals delicatessen in Guisborough will be demonstrating how to make hot water crust pastry, a recipe which dates back to the 1740s.

Lorna Jackson, from Real Meals, said: "We hope that this will be fun, but we don't recommend that you eat the results."

There will also be pie making demonstrations and the pies will be available to buy.

Another highlight of the day will be guided tours of the priory led by historian Shirley Hamilton, at 11.30am and 2pm, as well as a virtual reality model of the priory and a display outlining plans for its revitalisation as part of Guisborough Town Pride.

Children will be able to watch Punch and Judy, try circus skills, make flags and follow a treasure trail while Guisborough Army Cadets will provide a taste of Army life now and in the 1950s.

The events were made possible by a grant from Awards For All and sponsorship by Huntsman.

The town council is also hosting jubilee events in Sunnyfield House on Westgate at the same time.
