improvements are on the horizon for a village park thanks to a series of grants.

Since a multi-purpose ballcourt was created at Coundon Grange recreation ground, near Bishop Auckland, community groups have looked for ways to develop the site further.

Dene Valley Community Partnership and Groundwork West Durham joined forces to secure cash for the work.

They have now received grant offers from the Countryside Agency, County Durham Environmental Trust and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund.

Cash will also be provided through the Barclays Sitesavers Scheme, a partnership between Barclays PLC and Groundwork to transform derelict land into sites for education, fun, relaxation and play.

To celebrate the funding success, Dene Valley Community Park scheme will be relaunched with an activity day on Saturday June 22.

Community Partnership chairwoman Margaret Ingledew said: "Over the coming months we will finalise design plans, which will hopefully include seating, landscaping, improved play facilities and parking. It is very good news for the area."
