THERE was something for all of the family when Shildon held its annual summer carnival and street parade at the weekend.
This year's carnival was a right royal affair as the theme for the event was kings and queens, in celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
It began with a colourful parade of decorated floats from schools, community groups and local businesses from Dabble Duck Industrial Estate.
The parade travelled along Spout Lane to Main Street then on to the carnival venue, Hackworth Park, for a host of fun activities.
Taking pride of place at the front of the parade was the Carnival Queen, Kim Jones, of Coronation Avenue, with Sunnydale Comprehensive School pupils Holly Tweddle and Laura Horner as attendants.
Timothy Hackworth School pupil Gabrielle Harle was the Carnival Princess, with attendants Stacey Lynch and Amy Carrie Tweddle.
Events on the park included falconry and vintage car displays, football, a dog agility contest, a dance marquee and table top stalls.
Music was provided by Teesdale Pipes and Drums and the Jubilee Jazz Band.
A spokesperson for organisers, Shildon Chamber of Trade, said: "We had great support from local businesses and lots of people made a huge effort to make it a great success.
"The Queen, Princess and their attendants did Shildon proud."
