ADMISSIONS to one of the region's hospitals are thought to have been halted over the weekend following another stomach bug outbreak.
One person at the Cross Lane Hospital, in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, developed symptoms of the airborne virus Norwalk - a form of gastroenteritis which causes sickness and diarrhoea.
It is the same bug which affected scores of people at two of the popular resort's hotels earlier this month.
A dozen people staying at the Royal Hotel were struck down by the virus just days after it had forced the closure of the Grand Hotel, where 180 guests and 34 members of staff were affected.
Symptoms are said to be similar to gastric flu and experts say the virus usually runs its course within 48 hours.
Both the Friarage Hospital, in Northallerton, and York District Hospital have been affected by Norwalk outbreaks in recent years.
Disinfection of a North Yorkshire school has also taken place at the weekend after more than 200 children and staff were hit by a serious stomach bug.
Thorpe Willoughby Primary School, south of York, and its nearby pre-school and out-of-school club were closed on Friday following the outbreak.
