Two young men were treated for cuts and bruises in hospital after being rescued from the River Tyne, in Newcastle, at 1am yesterday.
A spokesman for the fire brigade said one of the men fell into the river from the High Level Bridge, while his companion jumped in to help him.
They found safety in the middle of the river where they were rescued.
